Style-
'More than a sport' will be both interview and visual based. Since gymnastics is a very visual sport I intend to reflect by using quite a bit of poetic influences when it comes to the visuals. I want to film to move forward through the use of visuals more than the use of voice, this is how I intend to structure my documentary. As a film maker, I prefer the method of telling a story by "Showing" the journey. although I do feel interviews and voice-overs are necessary for documentary, I do not wish for them to be the most prominent of aspects in my own film-making.
Mode-
The documentary will be both poetic and expository. There is no intention of using ‘a voice of god’ in the film. Interviews with subjects will be undertaken and may be heard and not seen during some moments of the film. It will be mainly poetic in the sense that I, the film maker, find the sport beautiful and feel that the best way to reflect this beauty in the film is to make it visually poetics with soft music.
Signature-
As a signature I intend to use archive footage of gymnastics when moving forward through the film, such as at the start of every new big "scene". This will be quite informative and also add another level to film in a sense of showing who long the sport has been around for and to depict how the same amount of dedication has always gone into it.
Unique selling point-
The idea of showing emotion behind a sport. Girls involved in gymnastics have such a small window of opportunity in the sport in relation the the amount of years that have gone into wanting to reach a goal. This will then show how emotional the sport can be when it comes to dealing with either disappointment or achievement. when putting so much of your life into reaching one thing it does create a strong mental impact on the result of that goal; which is the main USP that I would like to get across in the film.
