Risks and dependencies
Risk 1: My biggest risk for the documentary would be the primary dropping out. As I want to follow them through the sport of Gymnastics and look into their training regime, competitions, and lifestyle then if they were to drop out for any reason it would cause my project to fall apart.
Contingency 1: To avoid this risk then I would need to guarantee when I meet with them that I outline this and allow them to be 100% certain on the film before moving forward.
Risk 2: Possibility of filming abroad. As one of my primaries may be competing in Germany I would want to film the competition. Travelling abroad can pose quite a few possibly issues with equipment, insurance, money, and generally travelling to an unknown area. Also, due to the nature of Gymnastics often an athlete won't know until as late as possible if they are even competing, which then means that this would need to be a last minute trip.
Contingency 2: To avoid any last minute issues I will make sure to have all the technical aspects such as insurance and travel information ready in-case I do need to go. Also to gather as much information from my primary about the location and competition to ensure I wouldn’t have any issues filming there.
Risk 3: When filming these girls during their training there is always the issue of them getting distracted and disrupted from their training. Due to the fact that they are girls who compete at an international level both their coaches are very serious when it comes to their training and I would not want to upset any of the primaries by affecting it.
Contingency 3: To avoid such a thing, I have spoken to the coaches and agreed that they are happy for me to film in training and if it does begin to get to a point where disruption is occurring then the coach will inform me of this.
Risk 4: Some of my primaries may be under the age of 18 years old. Since they are 18, I’ll need to gather parental permission. This could cause a risk if parents are not comfortable with the idea of them being filmed.
Contingency 4: I plan on having them sign a child’s release form giving their consent. I will also inform them in detail about what exactly I am filming for the intentions of my documentary so they may feel more comfortable with the idea. Another thing to ensure them of it that I will always be filming with other adults around such as the girl’s coaches, whom the parents are very comfortable with.
